West Records 1,000th Career Kill as Bears Win Two

SELINSGROVE, Pa.  Senior Susan West registered the 1,000th kill of her career and Coast Guard swept a pair of matches from Cabrini and Rowan at Susquehanna.

West becomes the 11th Coast Guard player to record 1,000 kills and finished the day with 1,002 as the Bears improved to 16-10 overall.


Freshman Alex Kempf and junior Madison Scott each hit .444 with a team-high eight kills leading the Bears to a 3-1 win over Cabrini.

The Bears dropped the first set 25-18 before winning 26-24, 25-20 and 25-23.

Kempf added a team-high five blocks while junior Emma Saunders also had eight kills and four blocks; in the win. Freshman Angelou Dunton had seven kills and ten digs while freshman Makenna Martin led the way with 39 assists.

Freshman Ali Gates led the Bears with 11 digs while sophomore Hailye Reynolds added ten digs and a team-high three aces in the win.

Cabrini dropped to 12-13.


West had a match-high 15 kills as the Bears battled back from a 2-1 deficit to outlast Rowan 25-27, 25-22, 22-25, 29-27, 16-14.

Scott added 14 kills while Kempf and Saunders had ten kills each in the win. McGill led the Bears with 26 digs while Reynolds added 21 digs for the Bears. Martin led the way with 46 assists.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday when they host Wellesley in a key NEWMAC game at 7:00.
