SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Coast Guard won their fourth New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game of the season topping Mt. Holyoke 13-5 Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Bears improve to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while the Lyons fall to 3-11 on the season and 1-5 in the NEWMAC.
Freshman Marietta Davis had her second straight game with five points scoring four goals and adding one assist. Classmate Mary Goins had a career high four points with three goals and one assist while senior Daria McKenna also tallied four points on a goal and three assists. Freshman Haley McCue and Luisa Santos were the final multi-point scorers for Coast Guard finishing with two goals and a goal and assist respectively.
Mt. Holyoke was led by freshman Meryl Phair (2 G) and senior Leila Kouakou (1 G, 1 A). Senior Kaitlin Braz and sophomore Julianna Rankin were the only other goal scorers for the Lyons.
With the score tied at 1-1 in the opening five minutes of the game, the Bears rattled off six of the next seven goals capped off by a Santos tally from freshman Haley Howard with 12:44 remaining in the first half make the score 7-2.
Mt. Holyoke cut the lead to four to close the opening stanza as they scored two of the final three goals of the period making the halftime score 8-4.
Coast Guard took complete control of the game in the second half allowing one goal and scoring five to finish of their 11th win of the season, 13-5.
In only her third complete game of the season, freshman Mary Budri (3-2) allowed a career low five goals and made 13 saves for the win.
Sophomore Mia Wysocki (3-9) allowed 13 goals and made 10 saves.
Coast Guard is back in action on Wednesday, April 25th when they host MIT for their final home regular season game of the year. Opening draw is 4:00 pm.
