DANBURY, Conn. – Senior Daria McKenna scored her 100th career point with a program record 10 points as Coast Guard topped Western CT 22-10 in non-conference action.
With the win, the Bears improve to 9-3 on the season while the Colonials fall to 3-7.
McKenna becomes the first player in program history to tally 100 points and with her game high eight goals and two assists bringing her career total to 108. Freshman Marietta Davis tallied five goals while freshman Haley McCue scored four goals and added one assist.
Western junior midfielder Lauren Bradshaw netted four goals and dished out a pair of assists en route to earning her 100th career point. Rookie attacker Caroline Galligan also notched four goals, while sophomore Brooke Baldelli and junior Amber Andrews each tallied a scoring strike for the hosts.
The Colonials led 3-2 in the early going before the Bears put together an 8-2 run to seize a 10-5 halftime advantage.
Coast Guard would start the second stanza with another impressive outburst, a 10-3 spurt, extending the lead to 20-9 with just under five minutes remaining before McKenna rounded the scoring out with an unassisted even strength goal.
Coast Guard outshot the Colonials, 47-28, while also holding an edge in groundballs, 22-14.
Western rookie goalie Jennifer Sawicki went to 3-7 overall and finished with 12 saves.
The Bears are back in action Saturday April 14th, when they host the Babson Beavers in NEWMAC play. Opening draw is 1:00 pm.
