Bears Tally First Shutout in Program History

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Coast Guard tallied their first shutout in program history, topping Elms College 17-0 in non-conference action Tuesday night.

With the win, the Bears improve to 7-1 on the season while the Blazers fall to 0-7.

Freshman Brenna Farrington finished with a game high five goals. She currently leads the NEWMAC with 42 goals on the year and is first in points with 43. As of March 23rd she was tied for 24th in Division III in goal per game average.

Senior Daria McKenna finished with four points on three goals and one assist. She is now seven points away from becoming the first player in program history to score 100 points in their career. Sophomore Erin Mullen and junior Carter Sanderson both finished with a hat trick while freshmen Mary Goins and Haley McCue each had a goal and an assist.

Coast Guard went up 7-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game before holding a 15-0 lead in the first half. The Bears held Elms to one shot in the second half and scored two more goals to wrap up the team's record seventh win of the season.

Freshman Rebecca Dolan (6-1) started the game making two saves. Dolan is third in the conference with a 10.04 goals-against average. Classmate Bronwynn McGill played in her first collegiate game coming into the contest in the second half allowing zero goals.

Emily Huber (0-6) took the loss for the Blazers one save and allowing eight goals. Alissa Porfilio played the final 20:51 of the game and made two saves and allowed nine goals.

The Bears jump back into NEWMAC competition on Saturday, March 31st, when they travel to Boston, Massachusetts to take on Emerson. Opening draw is 10:30 AM.
