Freshman Haley Howard has been named NEWMAC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Bears opening season win over Eastern Connecticut 17-13.
In her collegiate debut, Howard caused seven turnovers, picked up seven ground balls and tied a program record with eight draw controls as Coast Guard opened the season with a 17-13 victory over Eastern Connecticut. Howard's totals in those three statistical categories are all second all time in program history. She helped the Bears avenge an 11 point loss to the Warriors from last season and added three assists to help Coast Guard score a team record 17 goals.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow night, when they travel to Newport, Rhode Island to take on the Salve Regina Seahawks. Open draw is 7:00 pm.
