DUDLEY, Mass. – Freshman Branyelle Carillo recorded her first double-double as she led the Bears with career highs of 17 points and 13 rebounds as Coast Guard beat Nichols 71-51 in a non-conference game.
Annabella Farabaugh added 15 points and Jacqueline Ward 14 points in the win for Coast Guard, which improved to 4-1 on the season.
Carillo, who made six of her final seven field goal attempts, was 7 for 12 from the field as Coast Guard shot 33.3 percent (25-75) in the win. The Bears made just 5 of 30 from 3-point range.
Nichols shot 26.1 percent (18 of 69) and made 4 of 24 from behind the arc.
The Bison (1-4) led 22-21 after the first quarter. Coast Guard would score the final 11 points of the first half for a 39-32 lead.
Nichols scored the first five of the third quarter cutting the deficit to 39-37 before the Bears hit the Bison with yet another 11-0 run and outscored them 15-3 to end the quarter taking a 54-40 lead after three.
Alexis Finnerty scored for Nichols to make the score 58-51 with 5:13 left, but the Bears would score the final 13 points of the game.
The Bears are back in action on Monday when they play at Gordon at 7:00.
