Why did you choose to come to the Coast Guard Academy? Ever since attending the Marine Academy of Science and Technology in New Jersey I knew that a military career was of interest to me. I began looking at my options and the Coast Guard Academy fit my goals and ambitions the best. I thought the Coast Guard’s missions were unique and knew it would be very rewarding to be a part of such an accomplished service.
How long have you been sailing? How did you start sailing? I started sailing in fourth grade at a local community club in Belmar, New Jersey. My mom had asked me if I wanted to try the program, I did and I have been sailing ever since.
What is your favorite thing about the sailing team at Coast Guard? Until I came to the Academy I only participated in local regattas and never moved past these community-size events. I like being challenged every day in practice to constantly make improvements and refine sailing tactics and strategy.
What other activities/positions/clubs are you involved with on campus? I am part of the Aviation Club, Night Caps Jazz Band, Ski and Snowboard Club, Scuba Club, Cadet Activities Council, Regimental Band and I help with set construction, light design and lighting crew for the fall play and winter musical.
What is the sailing achievement that you are most proud of? Having the opportunity to sail aboard USCGC Eagle.
What are your future sailing plans and career goals after graduation? I want to stay on the team for the next four years and continue to improve. After graduation I want to keep sailing. I hope to do some off-shore racing after graduation.
Tell us something that your teammates would be surprised to know about you. I once was an actor at a haunted house. I was painted bronze and played a statue.
