Read Named to United Soccer Coaches All-Region Second Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Senior Austin Read has been named to the United Soccer Coaches (previously NSCAA) NCAA Division III Men's All-New England Second Team for the 2017 season.

Read, who was a third team selection last season, continues to bring in awards after a succesful senior year and career at the Academy. He just took part in the NEISL Senior Bowl after leading the Bears to their first 10 win season since 2014. 

Read earned NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Year honors after a stellar season anchoring the Bears back four. He led a Coast Guard defense that was 12th in the nation in shutout percentage (.611), second in the conference and 18th in the nation in goals against average (0.58) and second in the conference in total shutouts (11). Read is a three time All-NEWMAC and NEWMAC All-Academic selection. He has started 71 of 73 games in his collegiate career tallying 26 points on 12 goals and two assists.

Read is also a two time CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District selection and a 2016 CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American. He is currently on the ballot to repeat as Academic All-American.
