NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Coast Guard Academy men's lacrosse announced its schedule for their first NCAA season and the Bears will open the season at archrival Merchant Marine on Feb. 28th at 1 p.m.
The Bears first ever home game will be March 21st vs. Norwich at 7 p.m.
Coast Guard will play a pair of games at traditional lacrosse powers from the ODAC, Virginia Wesleyan (Mar. 8) and Christopher Newport (Mar. 13) during Spring Break
"We are stepping into NCAA Lacrosse with a super schedule that is not shy for top level competition across the East," said Coast Guard head coach Ray LaForte. "The natural rivalry with Kings Point can be a rallying event on our Campus in the spring."
"Our spring break trip takes us to traditional lacrosse powers with deep roots. Virginia Wesleyan and Christopher Newport are top tier teams that give us a taste of the level of intensity it will take to compete in NEWMAC," added LaForte. "Springfield is our league's top team and they are a 365 day a year program as evidenced by their 18 NCAA tournament appearances. Our aspirations are to become an NCAA tournament level program and the 2015 season is our first step in the NCAA lacrosse arena."
