BRISTOL, R.I. – Dave Hostetler was one of six Hawks in double figures and he had 18 of his team-high 23 points in the first half leading Roger Williams to a 96-82 win over Coast Guard in a non-conference game.
Roger Williams, which improved to 4-2, would shoot a sizzling 64.3 percent from the field (36-56) and 55.6 percent from 3-point range (15-27) in the win.
Coast Guard (3-3) would shoot just 38.4 percent (28-73) and hit 9 of 25 from behind the arc.
Justin Kane had his second straight huge game as he finished with a career-high 26 points before fouling out after scoring a career-high 25 on Thursday night for the Bears.
Packy Witkowski (16), Noah Baldez (15) and Tyler Perez (11) also finished in double figures for Coast Guard. Witkowski led the Bears with a game-high eight rebounds while Witkowski and Baldez each had a team-high four assists.
Jack Brunswick knocked down back-to-back treys as the Bears cut a 10 point deficit to 80-76 with 10:06 left. The Hawks would score five straight later pushing the lead to 87-78 with 7:06 remaining to put the game away.
The first half was back and forth as neither team could open up a lead. The game was tied for the eighth time at 22-22 with 12:44 left in the half.
The Bears led 27-25 with 11:06 left before Roger Williams scored 10 straight to start a 17-2 run as the Hawks opened up a 42-29 lead with 6:01 left in the half and led 58-50 at halftime.
Roger Williams was red hot in the opening half shooting 66.7 percent (20-30) and an eye-popping 72.2 percent from 3-point range hitting 12 of 17. Hostetler had 18 first half points as he was 5 for 6 from 3-point range.
The Bears were 17-35 from the floor in the first half (48.6 percent and made five of 10 from behind the arc.
Coast Guard breaks for Thanksgiving and are back in action on Dec. 4th when they host neighbor rival Connecticut College at 7:00.
