Bears' Cross Country Teams Honored for Academics by USTFCCCA

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Both the Coast Guard men's and women's cross country teams earned team honors and also placed six cadet-athletes on the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2018 Cross Country All-Academic team.

The women's team earned the team honor with a team GPA of 3.19 and had five athletes named to the team in senior Anita Green (Mechanical Engineering), juniors Kirsten Carson (Marine and Environmental Science) and Olivia Suski (Marine and Environmental Science), sophomore Mia Huncharek (Operations Research and Computer Analysis) and freshman Laurel Felt (Marine and Environmental Science).

Senior Colton Atkinson (Civil Engineering) was the only Coast Guard male runner to earn All-Academic honor and the Bears also earned the team honor with a 3.27 GPA.

In order to qualify for the individual honor, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and finish in the top 25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.

For a team to be considered for this distinction, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum team GPA of 3.10 on a 4.0 scale.
