Bears Third at NEWMAC Championships

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Senior Gretchen Krause finished in 20th place leading Coast Guard to a third place finish at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship.

The Bears scored 89 points for the top three finish. MIT won the team championship for the 10th year in a row with 15 points while Wellesley was in second with 69 points.

Krause ran 19:52 for her 20th place finish followed by senior Bonny Turnage in 22nd place (19:56).

Junior Rachel Burchill crossed the line in 20:07 (24th place) while sophomore Anita Green and senior Jenn Haley were close behind her in 27th (20:15) and 28th place (20:16).

In their NEWMAC championship debut freshmen Kirsten Carson and Olivia Suski ran 20:36 and 20:43 for 36th and 43rd place respectively to round out the top seven for the Bears.

Coast Guard has a weekend off before they are back in action on Saturday, November 12th at the Division III New England Qualifier hosted by Westfield State.
