Bears Place 9th at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS.--(9/24/11)--Coast Guard placed ninth in a field of 16 teams at the Purple Valley Classic Invitational hosted by Williams College at Mt. Greylock High School.

The Bears had a solid showing among some of the top DIII competition in the New England Region and across the nation, as well as DI and DII competition (Fordham and St. Rose).

Middlebury College won the meet with 45 points, followed by Williams College with 56, Plattsburg scoring 116, Amherst at 118, and NYU with 135.

Freshman Beth Gollin was Coast Guard first finisher placing 26th overall covering the 6K course in 23:38. Next for Coast Guard was junior Sarah Blatt and sophomore Meghan Kalinowski placing 62nd and 74th running 24:38 and 24:56 respectively. Also in scoring position was freshman Cameo Ulbricht crossing the finish line in 25:34 (94th) followed by freshman Kendall Auth at 25:51 (108th) to round out the top 5.

Coast Guard will be off next weekend and looks to return to competition on Saturday, October 8th at the James Early Invitational 5K hosted by Westfield State College.
