Bears Salvage Split at Colby Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Coast Guard split a tri-match at Colby Sawyer losing to UMass-Boston, the #1 team in New England 3-0 before blanking the host Chargers 3-0.

UMASS-BOSTON 3, COAST GUARD 0

Coast Guard (9-9), did not go quietly battling UMass-Boston (16-3), the #1 team in New England before falling 25-18, 25-20, 25-17.

Freshman Angelou Dunton led the Bears with 12 kills to go with seven digs and two aces while junior Emma Saunders .357 and finished with seven kills.

Junior Michelle McGill lead the Bears with eight digs while freshman Makenna Martin had a match-high 27 assists.

COAST GUARD 3, COLBY SAWYER 0

Senior Susan West hit .320 with a team-high 12 kills leading Coast Guard to a 3-0 win. The Bears won by game scores of 25-23, 25-14, 25-19.

Coast Guard improved to 10-9 while Colby Sawyer dropped to 5-17 on the season.

Dunton had six kills, six digs and three aces while Martin led the way with 32 assists to go with seven digs. Saunders had six kills and a match-high five blocks in the win.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday night when they host Wheaton in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game at 7:00.
