SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Senior Susan West had nine kills, seven digs and five aces leading Coast Guard to a 3-0 win over Mount Holyoke in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
The Bears won by game scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-10 to improve to 9-8 overall and 3-3 in the conference while the Lyons drop to 2-11 overall and 0-7 in the NEWMAC.
Coast Guard scored the first seven points of the match and cruised to the 25-16 win in the opening game.
The Bears led 15-10 in game two before Mount Holyoke scored four of the next six to close to 16-14. Coast Guard led 20-19 scored three of the next four and held on for the 25-20 win.
Mount Holyoke actually led 3-2 in the third before the Bears ran off 12 straight points with West serving for a commanding 14-3 lead en route to the 25-10 win.
Coast Guard hit .306 in the win, its second best performance of the season.
Junior Madison Scott and freshman Alexi Deane each added seven kills in the win. Sophomore Hailye Reynolds had a team-high eight digs to go with four aces while freshman Makenna Martin had a match-high 28 assists.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday in a tri-match at Colby-Sawyer with UMass-Boston at 3:00.
