HOBOKEN, N.J. - The Bears had a two games to one lead but could not close it out as they lost to Ramapo 3-2 at the Stevens Invitational by game scores of 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, 19-25, 17-19.
In the second match Coast Guard battled back but could not finish the comeback against Stevens losing 3-2 by game scores of 10-25, 16-25, 33-31, 25-21, 12-15.
"It was not our weekend, we played some pretty hard teams and didn't capitalize when we should have," said Coast Guard head coach Aylene Ilkson. "Hopefully this will be a learning experience that we can take and use for our match against Babson on Tuesday."
Junior Ashley Dumont lead the way for the Bears with 14 kills. Freshman Summer Adams and freshman Emma Saunders each had eight kills of their own while freshman Michelle Hernandez had 24 assists and 12 digs. Freshman Michaela McKeown chipped in 27 digs for Coast Guard (10-6).
Freshman Larysa Iwaskiw had a match high 37 kills while hitting .233 and adding 19 digs for the Roadrunners. Junior Emily Harris had six assists with 26 digs while junior Nicole Herrmann had 18 assists.
In the second match Coast Guard was led by Saunders who hit .316 with 16 kills and Dumont added 15 kills of her own. Junior Maggie Hine had 34 assists with eight digs and junior Emma Gilland had ten digs.
Sophomore Mary Tobin had a match high 29 kills, hit .421, and had 21 digs in a winning effort for the Ducks. Senior Ashley Castillo had 61 assists while freshman Sydni Horner had 31 digs.
The Bears resume their conference schedule when they travel to Babson Park, Massachusetts on Tuesday, September 30th when they take on the Babson Beavers. Game time is at 7:00 pm.
