Bears Climb to 7th in New England Poll

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Coast Guard Academy volleyball team has moved up five spots to seventh in the latest New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Division III poll.

The Bears debuted at ninth in the poll before falling to 12th last week despite not losing.

Last week, Coast Guard upset the #1 team in New England Springfield 3-2 and registered a 3-2 win over Clark.

Coast Guard has won four straight to improve to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

Junior Ashley Dumont leads the Bears with 120 kills, a .336 hitting percentage and 31 blocks while sophomore Susan West is second on the team with 114 kills. Freshman Michelle McGill leads the team with 180 while junior Maggie Hine leads the Bears with 232 assists.

The Bears are back in action on Thursday night when they host WPI in a NEWMAC match beginning at 7 p.m.
