NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Junior Ashley Dumont had 12 kills leading Coast Guard to its fourth straight win, a 3-0 win over Smith in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match.
The Bears, who had won three straight 3-2 matches coming into the night, would win easily tonight 25-13, 25-11, 25-11 to improve to 9-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 and in first place in the NEWMAC.
Sophomore Susan West had eight kills and hit .429 while freshman Summer Adams had seven kills hitting .500 with just one error for Coast Guard, which beat Smith for the seventh straight time.
Junior Maggie Hine had a team-high 35 assists while freshman Michelle McGill led the way with 13 digs. Freshman Michelle Hernandez added 12 digs in the win for the Bears.
"Tonight was a great night as every player on our roster was able to contribute to the win," said Coast Guard head coach Aylene Ilkson. "We played focused Coast Guard volleyball and hope to carry this momentum through the rest of the week."
Coast Guard is back in action on Thursday when the Bears host WPI in a NEWMAC game starting at 7 p.m. It will be their final home game before playing ten straight on the road.
