BRUNSWICK, ME. – Bowdoin College, the 25th ranked team in the country, dropped the Bears in what was a grueling four set match, 3-1. The scores of the sets were 25-15, 25-21, 25-27, 25-23. With the loss, Coast Guard drops to 14-9 on the year while Bowdoin improves to 18-2.
Fittingly, on Senior Night for Bowdoin, it was the seniors who led the Polar Bears to victory. Melissa Haskell had 10 kills, 23 digs and six blocks in the victory while Hillary Cederna notched seven kills and a team-high 26 digs. Tory Edelman had eight kills, three aces and four blocks.
Seniors Catherine Walker, Keriann Mason and Karen Matic had 10 kills each for Coast Guard. Matic also dealt 20 assists and had 15 digs for the Bears in the defeat. Junior Samantha Marmolejo led the squad with 26 digs overall while sophomore Elise Sako also added 16 digs of her own to go with her four kills.
Coast Guard will play two more games at Bowdoin tomorrow, an 11:00a match versus Wellesley and a 2:30p match against Hamilton College.
