NEW LONDON, Conn.--Peter Kazlas has been named an assistant volleyball coach at the Coast Guard Academy.
Prior to the Academy, he worked as an assistant women's volleyball coach for six months after the 2011 season at Quinnipiac University.
Kazlas was a four-year member of the University of New Haven men's volleyball program. He served as the team's captain in his senior campaign, leading the team in several statistical categories. Kazlas posted the team's highest hitting percentage (.291), kill per set average (2.46) and block total (56), adding 40 digs, 16 assists and 10 aces in his final season. Kazlas was the recipient of the team's Most Valuable Player Award at the end of the year.
In addition to his collegiate experience, Kazlas also coached Club Lehigh Volleyball in Lower Macungie, Pa. For three years, he mentored boys from the ages of 15 to 17, guiding them to several national tournament appearances during his tenure. He was responsible for developing volleyball skills through practice and competition, while assisting leagues, camps, clinics and other events offered by the Club.
Kazlas graduated from the University of New Haven in 2010 with a degree in English.
