Bears Win Fourth Straight on Little Bear Night
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/18/11)--Sophomore Kelsey DePorto had five kills and a season-high 12 blocks while junior Catherine Walker added five aces and five blocks as Coast Guard ran its win streak to four with a 3-0 win over Clark in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match.
Coast Guard (18-5, 6-1), which remains in a three-way tie for first place in the conference, hosted Big Brothers/Big Sisters Night as each of the players were paired with a Little Bear for the night.
The Bears won by game scores of 25-11, 25-15, 25-18.
In the first game, Walker served ten straight points as the Bears scored 11 straight turning a 13-9 lead into a 24-9 advantage and won the opener 25-11.
Coast Guard started quickly in the second game jumping out to a 10-3 lead, extending the advantage to 15-5 before winning 25-15.
Clark fought hard in the third game trailing just 11-10 before the Bears used an 8-2 run to take control with a 19-12 lead and closed out the match with a 25-18 win.
Junior Karen Matic had five blocks and 15 assists while junior Keriann Mason and freshman Kelsey Hickle each added six kills in the win.
Senior Amira Tranchell led Clark (8-13, 3-4) with eight kills while freshman Kaitlyn Stuck led the way with 13 digs and senior Kortney Kelley added 11 digs for the Cougars.
