Bears Run Win Streak to Five

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/19/11)--Junior Keriann Mason had 13 kills and 14 digs while sophomore Kelsey DePorto also had 13 kills leading Coast Guard, ranked sixth in New England, to a 3-1 win over Trinity in a non-conference match.

The Bears, who have won five straight and eight of their last nine matches, won by game scores of 25-16, 21-25, 25-22 and 25-18 to improve to 19-5 overall while Trinity dropped its third straight to dip to 13-6 on the season.

Freshman Kelsey Hickle added 12 kills and four aces while sophomore Sam Marmolejo had a team-high 21 digs in the win for Coast Guard.

Coast Guard jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the opening game, took its largest lead of the game 16-8, and scored six of the final eight points for a 25-16 win.

Trinity evened things up in the second game as the Bantams took an early lead, extended that lead to 11-6, and took their largest lead of the game 22-15. Coast Guard made late game surge by scoring five of the next six points to pull to within 23-20 before Trinity won it 25-21.

The Bears led 10-5 in the third game before the Bantams stormed back to tie it 12-12. It was a back-and-forth game that was later tied at 21-21 when Coast Guard scored four of the final five points for a 25-22 win.

In the fourth game, Coast Guard broke an 8-8 tie with an 8-3 run to take a 16-11 lead and closed out the match with a 25-18 win.

Junior Danielle Isaman led Trinity with 12 kills while sophomore Hannah Brickley finished with nine kills. Senior Sarah Blagden had a match-high 32 digs for the Bantams while senior Jennifer Low finished with a match-high 32 assists for Trinity.
