NEW HAVEN, Conn. – NCAA Division III Indoor National Champion Kaitlyn Mooney won the 5,000 meter championship at the Open New England Championship featuring athletes from Divisions I, II and III.
Mooney posted a winning time of 16:49.40 to win the race by over seven seconds as Emily Wolff was second with a time of 16:56.77. Her time is her best during the outdoor season this year and is the fifth best in Division III this year.
She ran the fastest time ever recorded in Division III history to win the National Championship in the 5,000 meters during the indoor season posting a time of 16:23.12, breaking the Division III record.
Last season, Mooney placed 15th in the 5,000 meters at the Open New England Championship.
The Bears are back in action on the final day of the Open Championship tomorrow.
