NEW LONDON, Conn. – Leilani Salang broke the school record in the discus with a throw of 148 feet, 7 inches to highlight the first day of the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College.
Salang won the discus with a throw of 148 feet, 7 inches breaking her own record of 137 feet, 2 inches set last season. The 148-7 is tied for the fourth best throw in Division III this season.
Also for the Bears, Ariyanna Jurkowski placed fourth in the discus (128 feet, 2 inches), Olivia Suski was fifth in the 3,000 steeplechase (11.41.17), Nina Ragle was sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 11:45.36 and Anita Green was ninth in the 1,500 meters (4:44.96).
On the men's side, Jacob Pawlina took second in the javelin while Andre Gallant was second in the 10,000 meters to lead the Bears.
Pawlina took second in the javelin with a throw of 168 feet, 10 inches while Gallant posted a time of 32:33.42.
Also for the Bears, Javon Wingate was fourth in the long jump (21 feet, 8.75 inches) during the first day.
