Mooney, Troise, Lawrence, 4x400 Highlights Opening Meet

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Coast Guard opened the outdoor track & field season at the Navy Spring Invitational Saturday.

Freshman Kaitlyn Mooney led four runners into the top 10 as she ran 17:24.02 for a second place finish. Coming in behind her was freshman Emma Simms (6th - 19:06.04),senior Rachel Burchill (8th - 19:12.21) and sophomore Kirsten Carson (19:20.58).

Senior Gabrielle Troise was dominant for the Bears in the throws earning top 10 finishes in the hammer (4th – 153-10), javelin ( 5th – 99-07) and shot put (8th – 36-7.75)

Sophomore Adora Lawrence was the Bears top finisher on the day taking third in the 800 in 2:19.29. Freshman Maeve Roach was seventh in the same event crossing the line in 2:23.26.

The 4x400 of sophomore Anna Beck, Lawrence, Roach and sophomore Madeline Colwell took third finishing in 4:07.02.

In the 200, Beck was seventh running 26.02 while sophomore Madeline Colwell took ninth in the 400 (1:03.67) while Junior Caroline Jenkins took sixth in the 400 hurdles (107.59) and 10th in the 110 hurdles crossing the line in 17.11. Freshman Alexis Willis also was a top finisher in the 400 hurdles taking 10th (1:10.69).

Coast Guard is back in action on Wednesday, April 4th, when they dual with Merchant Marine in a battle for a point for the Superintendent's Trophy.
