ROXBURY CROSSING, Mass. / MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Freshman Kaitlyn Mooney won the Open New England Championship in the 3K as Coast Guard competed at the Open New England Championship and the Wesleyan Invitational.
Mooney crossed the line in 9:53.71 setting the school record by 18 seconds and moving into 10th place in all of Division III in the event. She was the only runner in the event who was not from a Division I school.
At the Wesleyan Invitational, Coast Guard claimed three first place finishes led by senior Ashlee Johnson who took home first in the 600 crossing the line in 1:38.28. Johnson just missed her school record of 1:37.87. Sophomore Adora Lawrence finished in second place, running the third fastest time in program history in 1:39.47.
Green also had another first place finish, winning the 1000 in 3:06.89. Her time moves her into fifth place on the women's indoor top 10 list. Roach was third in the event (3:15.01), followed by freshman Mia Huncharek in seventh (3:17.63).
The Bears 4x400 also ran a program best time finishing in 4:11.64, for the fifth fastest time in program history. The quartet was made up of senior Alexandra Cobb, sophomore Anna Beck, sophomore Madeline Colwell and junior Caroline Jenkins.
Senior Gabbie Troise had two top five finishes, taking second in the weight throw (49-11.75) and third in the shot put (39-10.5).
Other top finishers for Coast Guard is freshman Emma Sims (fourth, 19:11.70) and senior Rachel Burchill (seventh, 19:18.50) in the 5K, Beck (fifth, 1:00.70) in the 400, freshman Alexis Willis (fifth, 16-3.25) and sophomore Hollis Roush (seventh, 15-10.25) in the long jump and Jenkins (sixth, 9.98) in the 60 hurdles.
Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday, February 10th, when they travel to the Dave Hemery Invitational at Boston University and the MIT invitational.
