Beck, Jenkins and Troise Lead Bears to Victory over Mariners

KINGS POINT, N.Y. - The Coast Guard women's track and field team won 14 events on their way to a 103-41 victory over rival Merchant Marine.

The Bears already have the Superintendent's Trophy won but coupled with the men's victory on the same day, Coast Guard pushes their lead to 13.5-4.5.

Freshman Anna Beck led Coast Guard on the track winning both the 200 (27.25) and the 400 (1:00.16) and teamed up with sophomores Caroline Jenkins and Molly Yuan and senior Sarah Cummings to win the 4x100 (51.68).

Other winners on the track was freshman Adora Lawrence in the 800 (2:24.51), sophomore Morgan Garrett in the 1500 (5:08.32) senior Bonny Turnage in the 5K (19:21.44) and Jenkins in both the 100 hurdles (16.34) and 400 hurdles (1:09.15).

In the field events junior Gabrielle Troise won both the shot put (39-10.75) and the hammer (153-10) while sister junior Alexia Troise won the discus (123-09).

Coast Guard also swept the jumps with sophomore Kristina Bynum winning the long jump (16-05), freshman Hollis Roush winning the high jump (4-10.5) and classmate Mary Sims taking first in the triple jump (30-7.75).

Coast Guard is back in action next Friday, April 14th, when they host WPI and Springfield for a tri-meet.
