RICHMOND, Va. - The Coast Guard women's track and field team started off the season with a number of top performances at day two of the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia.
On the track, freshman Anna Beck just missed setting a new school record in the 400 as she ran 59.69. The school record was set last season by Madison Ahlers who ran 59.66. Also competing in the 400 was senior Sarah Cummings (1:01.89) and freshman Madeline Colwell (1:02.37).
In the 800 freshman Adora Lawrence continued her hot start from the indoor season running 2:20.13 for a seventh place finish. Senior Ashlee Johnson finished in 12th place with a time of 2:20.68. Also in the 800 was sophomore Morgan Garrett (2:25.70) and freshman Olivia Suski (2:29.09).
In the field events senior Caitlin Piker earned the top individual finish of the day in the javelin finishing in fifth place with a distance of 127'.
Sophomore Kristina Bynum wrapped up the field events for the Bears in the long jump with a distance of 16'8 3/4".
In the relays the 4x800 earned a top five finish as senior Bonny Turnage, Garrett, Johnson and Lawrence combined for 9:44.05 for a fourth place finish.
The 4x400 the quartet of Cummings, Jenkins, Colwell and Beck finished in 12th place with a time of 4:13.54.
Coast Guard is back in action on April 1st, when they return home for the annual Coast Guard Academy Spring Invitational.
