Bears Compete at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass - Coast Guard junior Ashlee Johnson and sophomore Anita Green each won events as the women's track and field team competed at the Springfield College Maroon & White Classic.

Johnson crossed the line first in the 600 running 1:39.99 to top the next fastest runner by just over a second. Sophomore Anita Green was the other winner for the Bears winning the 3000 meter run in 10:48.74.

Freshman Adora Lawrence was the next top finisher for Coast Guard taking second in the 800 in 2:27.39 while sophomore Morgan Garrett was fifth (2:29.89) in the same event.

Junior Rachel Burchill battled to the end of the 5K but came up just short finishing in second place by just two over two tenths of a second in 19:23.30. Senior Kyndall Percival was sixth in 20:40.49.

Senior Sarah Cummings took fourth in the 400 (1:02.84) while freshman Madeline Colwell was sixth (1:03.15).

Senior Bonny Turnage ran 5:24.78 in the mile for a third place finish while freshman Olivia Suski was sixth in 5:43.01.

Sophomore Caroline Jenkins and Mary Sims finished in fourth and fifth in the 60 meter hurdles in 9.84 and 10.24 respectively.

In the relays Coast Guard was second in the 4x400 as Cummings, Colwell, Lawrence and junior Alexandra Cobb ran 4:13.15.

In the field events junior Gabrielle Troise was second in the shot put (39-2.5) and fifth in the weight throw (45-7.75) while her sister junior Alexia Troise was third in the weight throw (47-10.5) and fifth in the shot put (35-2.5).

The Bears are back in action next Saturday, January 28, at the Tufts Multi-Event Invitational and the Bowdoin Invitational.
