Piker Sets School Record, Earns All-New England Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior Caitlin Piker set a new school record in the javelin and earned All-New England honors as the Coast Guard men's and women's track and field teams competed at the first day of the New England Open Championships.

Piker finished in eighth place with a throw of 135-07 breaking her own school record from 2014 (132-3). She was also the top Division III finisher in the event.

In other events, sophomore Raeford Penny finished in 18th place in the 400 running 49.91 and freshman Michael Frick cleared 14-4.25 in the pole vault for a 13th place finish. 

The Bear's return to Southern Connecticut State University for day two of the New England Open Championships tomorrow, May 14th.
