Masters, Piker Earn All-NEWMAC Honors as Bears Place 5th

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Senior Monet Masters and sophomore Caitlin Piker each earned All-conference honors with second place finishes as host Coast Guard placed fifth at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship.

Masters had a pole vault of 10 feet, six inches while Piker was second in the javelin (121-03).

MIT won for the eighth straight season finishing with 201.5 points, while WPI was second (174.5), Wellesley (108.5) in third, Wheaton (94.5) in fourth and the Bears were fifth (80) followed by Springfield (76), Smith (23), Babson (11) and Mount Holyoke (10).

Sophomore Gabrielle Troise was third in the shot put (39-0.25) and the hammer (150-11) while
sophomore Alexia Troise was third in the discus (134-0) and fifth in the hammer (143-09).

Sophomore Ashlee Johnson placed fourth in the 800 meters (2:21.36)

Senior Jessica Mulroy was fifth in the 3,000 steeplechase (12:00.10), senior Madison Ahlers was fifth in the 400 meters (1:00.02) and senior Tara Larkin was fifth in the javelin (107-03).

The Bears are back in action next weekend at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Springfield College.
