Bears Win Season Opener

NEW LONDON, Conn.— Freshman Monet Masters set the school record in the pole vault in her first collegiate meet with a vault of ten feet as Coast Guard won its season-opening Winter Invite #1.

Coast Guard won with 167 points, Rhode Island College was second with 113 points while Merchant Marine had 45 points.

Masters broke the school record of 9 feet, 8 inches set by Betsy Baker in 2003.

Emily Trudeau won the shot put (37-10.5) while Katie Nielsen took second (37-4.5) as both qualified for the Division III New England Championships.

Hannah Seeland won the weight throw (45-6.5) while Trudeau was second (42-9.75), both also qualifying for the Division III New England Championships.

Beth Gollin won the 3,000 meters in 11:01.99 while Melissa Keeley was second (11:36.53) also for the Bears, Abby Bishop won the 55 meters (9.41) while Kelcie LaRoche was second in 9.95.

The Bears 4x800 relay team of Rachel Hill , Kristin Euchler, Gollin and Jessica Mulroy won with a time of 10:29.86.

Euchler placed second in the 600 meters (1:45.65), Rachel Hill was second in the mile (5:33.23) and Gina Caylor was second in the pole vault (8-6.25).
