WELLESLEY, Mass. - Coast Guard split a tri-meet between Wellesley and Babson topping the Beavers 225-58 and falling to the Blue 154-144 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.
The Bears were led by sophomore Kristen Young who won three events and was on a winning relay. She touched the wall first in the 100 freestyle (54.96), 200 freestyle (1:59.37) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.45). Young them teamed up with sophomores Christine McCulla and Brooke Harkrader and junior Jackie Kokomoor to win the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:42.59.
McCulla added to the win in the 200 freestyle relay with a win in the 1000 freestyle (11:25.60) along with a second place finish in both the 100 freestyle (56.70) and the 500 freestyle (5:35.03).
Harkrader was another top finisher on the day for Coast Guard as she took first place in the 500 freestyle in 5:32.14. She was also second in the 200 medley relay with junior Tricia Talens, sophomore Addy Rutkoske and freshman Brigit Jogan in a time of 1:57.72. Harkrader finished up her day with a third place finish in the 200 freestyle in 2:05.40.
The final first place finish on the day for the Bears belonged to sophomore Cece Marzinsky who touched the wall first in the 200 butterfly (2:14.21). Marzinsky was also third in the 200 IM (2:20.44).
Kokomoor added two second place finishes to her victory in the 200 freestyle relay in the 50 freestyle (25.88) and the 100 freestyle (56.80).
Other top finishers for Coast Guard was Rutkoske (200 breaststroke, 3rd, 2:40.71), junior Lexi Laboy (1000 freestyle, 3rd, 12:12.64), Talens (100 backstroke, 2nd, 1:03.61), sophomore Samantha Kenis (100 backstroke, 3rd, 1:04.67 & 200 backstroke, 2nd, 2:18.33), junior Julianne Rogers (100 breaststroke, 3rd, 1:12.86) and freshman Alex Lombardi (200 backstroke, 3rd, 2:20.75).
Coast Guard is back in action this weekend when they host MIT in NEWMAC action. The meet will begin at noon.
