NEW LONDON, Conn. --  Sophomores Kristen Young and Christine McCulla combined for five individual events wins and were both part of a winning relay as Coast Guard held off Wheaton 148.5-145.5 for its first win of the season.

It was the second straight season that this meet came down to the final leg of the 200 freestyle relay. Last year, Coast Guard came-from-behind to win on the last leg to win the relay and the meet.

Tonight, Coast Guard led by five points entering the final relay and Wheaton had its top relay match up. The Bears needed to either tie or win to win the meet.

The last leg was Jacklyn Kokomoor, who entered the water with a .03 lead and held on to tie in a photo finish. The second relays ("B" relays) were separated by .01 for third place as well.

Coast Guard's 200 freestyle relay of Young, McCulla, senior Rachel Seaman and Kokomoor finished in a tie for first with a time of 1:41.55.

Young won the 100 freestyle (54.20),  the 200 freestyle (1:56.42) and the 100 butterfly (59.81) while McCulla won the 500 freestyle (5:27.16) and the 1,000 freestyle (11:15.53).

Also for the Bears, sophomore Addy Rutkoske won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.49), sophomore Celia Marzinsky won the 200 butterfly (2:16.11) and Kokomoor won the 50 freestyle (25.25).

The Bears (1-2) are back in action on Nov. 12th when they host WPI at noon.
