CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Bears 800 freestyle relay team broke the school record on the opening night of the 2016 New England Women's and Men's Athletic (NEWMAC) Swimming and Diving Championships.
Sophomore Ross Garrett, freshman Dan Moreno, junior Mike Franco and senior Tim Dion placed second to earn All-conference honors with the school record breaking time of 6:50.86. They broke the record of 6:52.26 set in 2010.
Also for the Bears freshman Will French placed third on the 1-meter board with a score of 414 in the only other event on the men's side on Thursday.
On the women's side, the Bears 800 freestyle relay of freshman Kristen Young, freshman Addy Rutkoske, sophomore Vicky Talens and freshman Christine McCulla placed fifth with a time of 7:45.81 in the only women's event on the first day of competition.
