NEW LONDON, Conn.-The Coast Guard Academy placed eight cadet-athletes on the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, spanning across three sports.
The women's swimming and diving team led the way with four selections while the women's basketball and men's swimming and diving teams each had two athletes honored, respectively. Juniors Caitlyn Gever (Operations Research and Computer Analysis) and Carolyn Slife (Marine and Environmental Sciences) were each recognized for the second year in a row. Senior Carol Yin (Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering) and sophomore Abigail Isaacs (Naval Architecture and Engineering) were each honored for the first time in their careers.
From the women's basketball team, junior Dani Knox (Civil Engineering) earned a second consecutive selection while classmate Jamie Waterman (Marine and Environmental Sciences) was honored for the first time. Senior Marc McAndrew (Electrical Engineering) was a third time selection while junior Tyler Kotchman (Mechanical Engineering) earned the recognition for the second straight year.
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2012 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at his institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 11 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
