Ferguson Breaks Pool Record in Win over Rival Mariners

NEW LONDON, Conn.—Chantel Ferguson broke the pool record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.60 and she won both the 100 and 200 butterfly leading Coast Guard to a 177-118 win over rival Merchant Marine Academy.

Coast Guard improves to 4-6 on the season dropping Merchant Marine to 6-3 in dual meets. The win coupled with the men's win over the Mariners this afternoon, gives Coast Guard a 4-3 lead in the Superintendent's Trophy standings vs. the Merchant Marine Academy this season.

Ferguson also won the 100 butterfly (1:01.80) and the 200 butterfly (2:15.54).

Haley McWilliams won both the 500 freestyle (5:25.81) and the 1,000 freestyle (11:01.40), Darlene Sao won the 50 freestyle (25.75) and the 200 freestyle (2:01.55), Ashley Ezell won the 100 backstroke (1:04.62), Patti Eidenire won the 100 freestyle (57.35), Sara Cantrell won the 1-meter diving (232.20) and the 3-meter event with 248.62 points.

The Bears 200 medley relay team of Sao, Terri Jozsa, Ferguson and Eidenire won with a time of 1:55.46

Also for the Bears, Carolyn Slife placed second in the 100 backstroke (1:05.31) and the 200 backstroke (2:21.16), Erin Talbot was second in the 200 freestyle (2:04.95), Eidenire was second in the 50 freestyle (25.98), Danielle McMeekin was second in the 100 freestyle (58.15), Jozsa was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.02) while Cathy Durand was second in the 1-meter diving (183.07) and the 3-meter diving (244.17) events.
