Bears Split Dual Meet

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Haley McWilliams took home the 200m butterfly and the 400m freestyle to pace the Bears to a 1-1 split in the dual meet with WPI and host Providence College this evening. McWilliams blew away the field in the 400m freestyle posting a time of 4:45.34 and won the 200m butterfly in 2:33.35.

Classmate Megan Toomey came in second in the 400m freestyle, finishing in 5:03.95 while junior Chantel Ferguson backed up McWilliams in the 200m butterfly with a time of 2:36.06.

Ferguson also paced Coast Guard with a sweep in the 100m butterfly and was the lead leg in first place finishing 400m freestyle relay team. Ferguson came in with a time of 1:09.59 in the 100m butterfly while freshman Ashley Ezell and senior Elizabeth Kenis came in at 1:11.13 and 1:16.15, respectively.

Sophomore Darlene Sao, and freshmen Patricia Eidenire and Carly Campbell teamed up with Ferguson to take first in the 400m freestyle relay coming in with a combined time of 4:15.65. The Bears also picked up a third place finish in the event as sophomores Caitlyn Gever, Kelsey Gray, senior Erin Talbot, and freshman Danielle McMeekin came in at 4:25.47.

Sao picked up two more wins in the 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley finishing in 1:01.72 and 2:31.42, respectively. Sophomore Carolyn Slife took third place in the 200m individual medley coming in at 2:44.68.

Senior co-captain Terri Jozsa also picked up two wins in the 100m and 200m breaststroke. Jozsa finished the 100m breaststroke in 1:22.09 and the 200m breaststroke in 2:52.87.

Coast Guard beat WPI 198-75 and dropped to Providence 118-145.
