NEW LONDON, Conn. – Wellesley freshman Carely Phillips netted a hat trick as the Blue scored two goals in each half notching a 4-0 win over Coast Guard in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.
With the loss the Bears fall to 6-7-4 overall and 2-5-2 in NEWMAC play while the Blue improve to 7-8-1 on the season and 4-4-1 in the conference.
Wellesley got the scoring started in the 14th minute when the Blue earned a free kick on the right side just outside Coast Guard's penalty box. Phillips stepped up and hit a shot over the Bears wall and inside the near post for her fifth goal of the season.
Five minutes later Phillips received a pass from senior Maddie Carlborg down the left side. Phillips dribbled into the Coast Guard penalty box and knocked a shot just inside the left post for her second of the game and sixth of the year.
Phillips finished off her hat trick at the 55:14 mark in the second half as she managed to dribble into the Bears penalty box on the left side, faked a shot and then put her shot inside the opposite post for her third and final goal of the game and seventh of the season.
Wellesley finished their scoring in the 68th minute when Carlborg settled a ball at the top of the Coast Guard 18 and then rifled a shot into the left side of the net for her sixth goal of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Boohar (6-7-4) made five saves on nine shots on goal. Boohar passed the century mark for saves in a season and now has 103 on season which is second in the NEWMAC.
Freshman Olivia Reckley (7-8-1) made six saves on six shots on goal for her third shutout of the season.
Coast Guard finishes their season in Cambridge, Massachusetts when they travel to MIT. Kickoff is 5:00.
