PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Coast Guard played in their sixth overtime game of the season tying out of conference foe Johnson & Wales 2-2 on Monday night.
With the tie the Bear's record moved to 3-3-3 while the Wildcats are now 5-2-3.
Johnson & Wales took an early lead as junior Kjyra Selner took a pass from sophomore Deja Hursey, spun and ripped a shot from eight yard outs for her seventh goal of the year at the 22:17 mark.
Almost exactly five minutes later sophomore Kali Borden answered for Coast Guard as junior Gabrielle Auzenbergs played a through ball to Borden who slotted it home for her first goal of the year making the score 1-1.
The score looked headed into the half tied until junior Wendy Menchu-Lopez received a pass from freshman Alexa Dzubak at the top right corner of the Bear's penalty box. Mecnhu-Lopez hit a shot that curled into the right upper 90 for her first goal of the year giving the Wildcats a one goal advantage at the half.
The Bears defense withstood an early onslaught from the Wildcats as they took 17 shots in the first half
The majority of the second half was scoreless until junior Gabrielle Auzenbergs, with under ten minutes left in the game, picked a great time to score her first goal of the season as she took a shot from outside the Johnson & Wales penalty box that snuck through the hands of junior goalkeeper Emily DeMelo, tying the game at two and forcing the game into overtime.
Neither team could find the back of the net in either overtime period as the game ended 2-2.
