WORCESTER, Mass. - Coast Guard fell by a final score of 1-0 to Clark in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.
With the loss, the Bears fall to 3-3-2 on the season and drop their first conference game of the year (0-1-1). The Cougars improve to 6-1-1 overall and pick up their first NEWMAC win of the season (1-1).
In the first half Coast Guard had two early opportunities as senior Katie Clark worked her way in behind the defense and sent a shot on goal that beat freshman Julianna Christy but bounced off the left post and away from goal.
Clark followed up that attempt with another just over thirty seconds later but this time was stopped by Christy who held the shot.
Clark broke the deadlock at the 27:23 mark as a corner from freshman Hannah Crook found junior Emma Denault's who headed it home for her first goal of the season.
The Cougars nearly put another on the board as senior Kara Fischer managed to dribble past sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Boohar. Fischer took a low shot that bounced off the post. Alyssa Moreau pounced on the rebound and fired a shot towards the empty net, but senior Emily Matthews managed to recover in time and cover the empty net, blocking the shot and clearing it out of danger.
In the second half the Bears could only muster one shot as the Clark defense managed to stymie the Coast Guard offense and preserve the 1-0 victory.
Boohar (3-3-2) made six saves on seven shots on goal. She is second in the conference with 52 saves on the year. She is now fifth all time with 165 career saves.
Christy (6-1-1) made two saves on two shots on goal. She is fifth in the NEWMAC with a .73 goals against average.
Coast Guard is back in action on Monday, September 26, when they they travel to Johnson & Wales for a nonconference matchup.. Kickoff is 7:00.
