Bears Honored with NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award
The New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the Coast Guard Women's Soccer team winners of the 2012 Sportsmanship Award. This is the fourth consecutive season that the Bears have earned the honor.
"We are extremely honored to receive the NEWMAC Women's Soccer Sportsmanship Award this season," said head coach Susan Grant. "It says a great deal about the character of the members of our team. Regardless of the score at the end of a match, I am proud our team competed hard, played fair, and represented our Academy in a way that is important to us. To have the other NEWMAC teams honor us in this way means a lot to our team and our program."
Coast Guard finished the season with a 3-13 overall record and a 1-8 record in conference play. The Bears picked up their only NEWMAC Conference win in the season finale behind a great effort from goalkeeper Holly Moore, who was making her first career appearance in net.
Junior Emily Marks led Coast Guard with four goals while freshman Caroline Eastman had three of her own. Junior Jill Kelly netted one and led the team with three assists. Junior goalkeeper Devin Fellman finished the season making 125 saves, the fifth highest single season total in program history.
