NEW LONDON, CONN. – Junior Emily Marks' goal in the 13th minute proved to be all the Bears needed as they picked up their first NEWMAC Conference win today in the season finale over WPI. With the win, Coast Guard finishes with a 3-13 overall record and a 1-8 record in conference play. The Engineers finished the season with a record of 5-12 and also a 1-8 record in the NEWMAC.

After ending the first half trailing 1-0, WPI started the second half with several scoring opportunities in the opening minutes. In the 50th minute, WPI junior Britney Atwater sent a ball into the box to the foot of classmate Courtney Langley who sent a shot just wide of the net. Less than a minute later, WPI had another chance as sophomore Lauren Frank rocketed a shot that also sailed just left of the Bears goal.
Coast Guard was able to tack on another goal in the 68th minute as two seniors, appropriately on Senior Day, connected to give the Bears some insurance. Kelsey Freeman sent a pass to the left side of the box to Liz Kenis, who laced a shot into the upper right hand corner for the second goal of the game and her first of the season.
Just two minutes later, the Bears nearly added a third when freshman forward Caroline Eastman had her shot ricochet off the crossbar.
With just under six minutes to play, WPI had four consecutive corner kicks but were unable to cut into the Bears lead.
Coast Guard got an outstanding effort from sophomore Holly Moore who made the first start of her career in goal, filling in for an injured Devin Fellman. Moore made seven stops in the win and recorded the first shutout of her career.
