TOP MOMENT #8 – WRESTLING PROGRAM HAS A RESURGANCE UNDER KEVIN BRATLAND

Coast Guard head coach Kevin Bratland led the Bears to their first winning season since the 2000-'01 season as the Bears finished 13-6, beat archrival Merchant Marine for the first time since 2007, placed third at the NEWA Duals and sent a pair of wrestlers to the NCAA Championships.

Senior Nate Giorgio won the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Most Dominant Award while Bratland was named the NEWA Coach of the Year.

Giorgio finished his career earning All American Honors for the third time in his career at the NCAA Championships at 133 pounds. Going into the NCAA he was listed as the most Dominant wrestler in NEWA as tabulated by the NCAA.  Giorgio had a season record of 41-2 and placed 5th at the NCAA's and had a career record of 109-24. He won the Doug Parker, York Invitational, Roger Williams Invitational, and the very prestigious All Academy Championships.  He won the Northeast Region Championship for the first time in his career and earned Scholar All-American honors with a 3.36 GPA in Civil Engineering.
