Three Place at New Standard Invitational

YORK, Pa.—Coast Guard had three place winners as the Bears placed 11th of 16 teams at the New Standard Invitational at York College.

The Bears finished with 72.5 points while Ithaca won with 206.5 points.

Junior Matt Vieira placed fourth at 149 pounds. He won his first three matches and was 6-2 on the day.

Sophomore Chris Sullivan was fifth at 157 pounds as he won the fifth place match with a pin in 3:30. He was 4-2 in the tournament. He lost 3-1 in overtime in the semifinals after winning his first three matches.

Senior Mike Shermot, ranked 8th nationally, was fifth at 174 pounds posting a record of 4-2 on the day, he won his first three matches of the day before falling 11-4 in the semifinals to the eventual champion Lou Puca from Cortland, who is ranked fifth nationally.

The Bears are back in action on Friday night when they take part in the first dual meets of the season as Coast Guard hosts nationally ranked Roger Williams as well as Southern Maine beginning at 4 p.m.
