Trio Named to Pilgrim League All-Star team
NEW LONDON, Conn.—Coast Guard had a trio of wrestlers honored by the Pilgrim Wrestling League as the league awards were announced on Monday.
Junior Luke Taylor (174) and sophomore Mark Howard (Hwt.) were named first team All-Stars while freshman Tom Porzillo (133) was named an honorable mention All-Star for the Bears.
Taylor was 21-9 this season with a team-high seven wins by fall at 174 pounds and he his Northeast Regional was cut short this past weekend due to an injury, he still placed sixth overall.
Howard finished the season 19-12 at heavyweight in dual meets with four pins, which was second on the team.
Porzillo was one of just four freshman honored out of the 27 wrestlers that were named to the All-Star team. He won eight dual matches for the Bears and was 3-2 in Pilgrim League action with two of his wins coming by pin and both of his losses were by a single point.
