Giorgio Wins 125 Class; Named Outstanding Lightweight

BRISTOL, R.I.--(11/12/11)--Freshman Nate Giorgio won the 125 pound weight class and was named the Lightweight Most Outstanding Wrestler as the Bears placed fifth of 12 teams at the Roger Williams Invitational.

Giorgio won all four matches. He began the day with a pin in 3:16 before recording a 15-0 major decision to advance to the semifinals. He earned a berth in the championship match with a 5-2 win before beating Sam Shames from MIT 13-8 to win the 125 pound weight class.

Sophomore Lucas Taylor placed second in the 165 pound weight class he won 10-9, registered a pin in just 1:40, won 2-1 and then 4-1 before falling 7-2 to Ryan Madson of MIT in the championship match.

Junior Pat Leavitt also placed for the Bears with a third place finish in the 184 pound weight class. He opened with a 12-0 win before falling into the losers' bracket with an 8-7 loss. Leavitt bounced back with a pin in just 1:47 before winning 7-3 and 13-0 to earn a spot in the third place match where he beat Alex Moreno of Stevens 5-1 to finish with five wins in the tournament.

Junior Colin Schuster was sixth at 157 pounds. He won 9-0 and 1-0 before falling 11-6. He won 10-5 and 3-2 before losing 5-2 in the fifth place match.

Coast Guard finished with 80.5 points, Rhode Island College was fourth with 90 points. Stevens won with 163.5 points.
