THROGGS NECK, N.Y. - Sophomore Hannah Eshleman scored with 7:12 left giving Coast Guard their second win of the season 12-11 over Maritime (N.Y.) in nonconference action.
With the win Coast Guard improves to 2-5 on the season while the Privateers drop to 2-2 on the year.
Sophomore Daria McKenna scored a team high four goals while senior Kaitlin Dickson scored three. Eshleman and freshman Carter Sanderson scored two goals each. McKenna is currently tied for seventh in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) in goals with 12.
Maritime was led by freshman Krista Deleva who had four goals while sophomore Andrea Mitchell and freshman Ciara Murphy notched three. Junior Jane Quinn scored a goal and added two assists.
Coast Guard held a narrow 6-5 at the end of the first half as McKenna scored three of her four goals and Sanderson added two goals in the period.
In the second half the Bears kept the Privateers at bay as they did not allow them getting any closer than one. Eshleman's goal at with just over seven minutes was key as Maritime scored the final two goals of the game, but could not complete the come back as Coast Guard completed their second win of the season.
Sophomore Angel Fay (2-5) made 11 saves on 22 shots faced and allowed 11 goals. Fay is third in the conference in save percentage at 46.8.
Junior Christina Finnen (2-2) made 13 saves on 25 shots faced and allowed 12 goals.
Coast Guard held an advantage in ground balls (26-21),shots (29-27) and draw controls (15-10).
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday, March 30th when they host MIT in Coast Guard's NEWMAC opener. Game time is 7:00 pm.
