Coast Guard Competes Against Mount Holyoke and Trinity

MEDFORD, Mass – Coast Guard competed against Mount Holyoke and Trinity at a regatta hosted by Tufts, splitting with Mount Holyoke and falling to Trinity.

The regatta was set up as multiple duals, with each crew racing twice.  There were 5 women's teams competing, and each crew was set to race 2 others, resulting in indirect scores against the 2 crews not racing head-to-head.  The head-to-head competition was drawn at random.  In the 1V, Coast Guard was selected to race Mt. Holyoke in the first race and Trinity in the second race.

The 2V was selected to race Trinity in the first race, and then depending on whether they won or lost, would race the winners or losers of the Tufts v. Mt. Holyoke match-up. The Bears lost to Trinity, so they raced Mt. Holyoke, who had lost to Tufts.

The line-ups were as follows:

1V8+ (7:04.9 and 7:19.4)

C - Victoria Castleberry

8 - Sarah Kukich

7 - Zoe Bolling

6 - Karisa Maurer

5 - Tess Heimerman

4 - Savannah Lyle

3 - Jacquelyn Dilley

2 - Tara Strauss

1 - Laura Beck

2V8+ (7:50.7 and 7:48.1)

C - Kirsten Sharp

8 - Makenzy Karnehm

7 - Megan Sackett

6 - Savanna Fordham

5 - Jessica Baek

4 - Silvia Rodriguez-Rios

3 - Maral Toukhanian

2 - Kathryn Haerr

1 - Sarah Chen

"Today was a great step forward for the Bears in continuing to develop as each individual crew and learn from their racing experiences," said head coach Jodi Hope. "I am grateful for the opportunity we had to participate in this regatta, not only to get two races in down the course, but also to face off against nationally-ranked teams. Both CGA boats had really solid races; yet, the next steps we need to take as a team to continue to progress became even more evident.  We didn't get a lot of time on the water last week due to weather conditions, so today was a lot about grit: moving forward, we can start to build on the more strategic aspects of our race plan and keep honing the technical skills."

Coast Guard is back in on April 16th when the Bears host Mount Holyoke and Johnson & Wales.
