Bears Fall to Springfield in Tuesday Matinee

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –  Gracie Restituyo led four Springfield players in double figures with 15 points to go with a game-high 16 rebounds leading Springfield to a 63-50 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

The Pride improve to 9-5 overall and remain unbeaten at 5-0 in conference play while Coast Guard drops to 3-10 overall and 2-3 in the NEWMAC.

Freshman Kyra Hartman had a career-high 23 points to lead Coast Guard while sophomore Brenna Farrington led the Bears with five rebounds.

Springfield used a 12-0 run in the first quarter to open up a 15-3 lead with 2:49 left in the first quarter. The Pride led 20-11 after one quarter.

The Bears would miss their first 11 field goals of the second quarter as Springfield outscored the Bears 16-3 to start the quarter for a commanding 36-13 lead with 4:29 left in the opening half and led 41-21 at halftime.

The Pride led 51-28 entering the fourth quarter and maintained that lead 56-33 before the Bears used a 15-3 spurt cutting the deficit to 59-48 with 1:09 left.

Springfield shot 36.7 percent from the field (22-60) and hit 5 of 13 from 3-point range while the Bears were 16 of 56 from the floor (28.6 percent) and made 6 of 23 from behind the arc.

The Bears are back in action on Thursday night with a NEWMAC game at Mount Holyoke at 7:00.
